Dear Students, Parents, Staff, and Community Members,

The Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center serves hundreds of kindergarten students each year. As a center, we are able to focus strictly on the development of kindergarten-aged children. From our building design to our curriculum, our purpose is to meet the unique needs of a kindergartner. We have 18 classrooms and over 50 staff whose specialty is early childhood education. Our goal is for every child to love learning and get the very best start possible to his or her academic career.

We are a "bucket filler" school, encouraging students to be respectful, responsible, cooperative, kind and safe. Each morning our counselor leads our children in our kindergarten Pledge, during which our children declare that they will do their best to embody these five attributes. Throughout the day we teach and model how to be bucket fillers. We not only want our children to learn their ABC's and 1-2-3's, we want them to value themselves and others.

The Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center encourages families to be a part of their child's education through our "Fun Fridays" activities, through which we invite parents and grandparents to be a part of their child's learning. We host "Muffins for Moms," "Donuts with Dudes," and grandparent activities along with many other family events. Parents are children's first teachers. We encourage parents and families to join us during this special year of their child's education.

About Our School

The Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center has served as the dedicated home for kindergartners in the Poplar Bluff School District since opening for the 2011–12 school year. Before the Camp Road facility existed, kindergartners attended class at the Mark Twain campus on North Main Street. The new building was made possible by an 18-cent debt service levy approved by voters in 2009, and was designed by Dille and Traxel Architecture right here in Poplar Bluff.

Built with young learners in mind from the ground up, the 59,000-square-foot facility features 20 classrooms, a gymnasium, and a cafeteria. Monitored entrances and hardened corridors were built into the design from the start, reflecting the district's commitment to keeping students safe.

On the night of March 14, 2025, an EF-3 tornado tore through the building, causing extensive damage to the roof and mechanical systems. Classes were disrupted for only two weeks before students were relocated to the Mark Twain building to finish out the school year. Working with Zoellner Construction, the district completed $5.4 million in repairs — all covered by insurance — in just 129 days, and students returned to Camp Road on the first day of the 2025–26 school year.
