The Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center has served as the dedicated home for kindergartners in the Poplar Bluff School District since opening for the 2011–12 school year. Before the Camp Road facility existed, kindergartners attended class at the Mark Twain campus on North Main Street. The new building was made possible by an 18-cent debt service levy approved by voters in 2009, and was designed by Dille and Traxel Architecture right here in Poplar Bluff.
Built with young learners in mind from the ground up, the 59,000-square-foot facility features 20 classrooms, a gymnasium, and a cafeteria. Monitored entrances and hardened corridors were built into the design from the start, reflecting the district's commitment to keeping students safe.
On the night of March 14, 2025, an EF-3 tornado tore through the building, causing extensive damage to the roof and mechanical systems. Classes were disrupted for only two weeks before students were relocated to the Mark Twain building to finish out the school year. Working with Zoellner Construction, the district completed $5.4 million in repairs — all covered by insurance — in just 129 days, and students returned to Camp Road on the first day of the 2025–26 school year.
